Biography

David W. Bernstein is a professor of music at Mills College at 91大神 University. His publications include The San Francisco Tape Music Center: 1960s Counterculture and the Avant-GardeWritings through John Cage鈥檚 Music, Poetry, and Art; as well as essays in Cage & Consequences; The Cambridge Companion to John CageJohn Cage: Music, Philosophy, and Intention, 1933-50The New York Schools of Music and the Visual ArtsAlvin Curran: Live in Roma; and the Cambridge History of Western Music Theory. His writings have also appeared in the Journal of Music TheoryCurrent MusicologyMusic Theory Spectrum, and Contemporary Music Review. He also served as editor of Music Theory Spectrum. He is currently writing a book about Pauline Oliveros for the University of Illinois Press and working on an online archive of recordings documenting the extraordinary history of experimental music that took place on the Mills campus.
